Timelines: Assault on America Mobile questions the outcome of Germany invading America during WWII right on your iPad

Strategy First has released a much-desired classic style of RTS on the App Store that begs the interesting question: "What if the Axis powers invaded the United States of America in WWII?"

Developed completely with tablets in mind, Timelines: Assault on America Mobile takes place during WWII on American soil and features twelve different missions set in a variety of locations across the United States.

After successfully completing a mission, you collect upgrade points which can be used to grow your army into a powerhouse capable of withstanding the Axis assault.

Timelines: Assault on America Mobile is welcoming to fresh recruits or RTS veterans thanks to an impressive AI system that adjusts itself to match your skill level.

There's also an involved co-op multiplayer mode that allows you and up to four players to play together. However, you aren't just limited to Germany or USA – these two are joined by 7 other playable countries, including: UK, France, Russia, Japan, Hungary, Romania, and Czechoslovakia.

It's probably safe to say that if you're either an RTS fan or a history buff you're sold already but there's plenty here for the newcomer or the merely curious.

Though mobile app stores are full to the brim of games claiming to be strategy or RTS, there aren't many that fulfil the needs of RTS fans who played classic franchises such as Age of Empires and Command & Conquer during the PC's glory days.

Strategy First's Lead Producer, Mike Guttman, believes that Timelines: Assault on America Mobile is the first game on tablets to successfully do just that.

Guttman said: "There are many RTS games on the App Store or games that claim to be an RTS. However, Timelines is the first true Classic 3D RTS which caters to the hardcore Strategy gamer.

"Timelines is reminiscent of the days of the PC RTS which Strategy First built its foundation on."

However, if transplanting the classic RTS experience onto tablets was easy, everyone would do it and it's clear that Strategy First had to overcome some stiff challenges during the process.

Guttman was quick to point out the most challenging aspect: "Making the controls work and make sense on a tablet rather than with a keyboard and mouse.

"We must have changed the way the controls work at least 20 times during the development process until we felt it works and makes sense for the average user."

And work it does but that isn't the aspect of the game that Guttman and the team at Strategy First are most proud of.
They worked hard to bring a cross platform multiplayer experience whereby, no matter the device or system you and your friends own, if Timelines: Assault on America Mobile is on it, you can still play together.

"From the start we wanted to create a mobile cross platform multiplayer game along with the campaign missions. While Android and iOS have many casual games that they can play with each other there is a lacking number of mid core cross platform multiplayer titles.

"We took this one step further when we made it possible for iOS, Android, PC, Mac, and Linux to all play each other in Timelines."

Strategy First won't stop here, though. Guttman and the team are developing a road map of features with the community's wishes firmly in mind.

"We definitely plan for future development with Timelines. Right now we are listening to our community of users and trying to incorporate their suggestions into our road map.
"The response of people contacting us who love the game has really been overwhelming."

Timelines: Assault on America Mobile is available now in the App Store [download] and Google Play [download] for free with a single IAP that unlocks the full game once you've completed the first two campaign missions.

Windows Phone users, don't dismay, Timelines: Assault on America Mobile being released on the platform is a "definite possibility."
