Freemium iOS hit The Sims FreePlay building a home on the Android Market in February

EA has announced that its iOS title The Sims FreePlay will be relocating to the Android Market in February.

After setting up residence on the App Store at the end of 2011, the freemium version of the hugely popular time- and resource-management franchise will be making a home on Android handsets before the month is out.

In The Sims FreePlay, you control the destinies of up to 16 different characters by designing their houses, choosing their careers, picking their pets, and generally obsessing over every minute detail of their virtual lives.

God complex

In a (welcome or otherwise) break from The Sims tradition, The Sims FreePlay employs a 24-hour cycle, meaning you will be checking in throughout the day and responding to your Sim's needs in real time.

As in the iOS version, you can spend money on in-app purchases to speed up your progress, but you can unlock all of the game's content for free if you're prepared to put the time in.

We'll give you an official February release date for The Sims FreePlay on Android as soon as we know it.
