A mammoth task

Former Dead Island 2 devs create iOS and Android game to commemorate losing their jobs

What do you do when you know you're about to lose your job? Make a game about it?

That's what the three people who make up new indie studio Inbetweengames did after losing their jobs at Yager.

Previously, they worked on Spec Ops: The Line but were most recently working on the now-cancelled Dead Island 2.

At some point during the development it was clear they were going to be laid off. That's when they decided to turn their emotions into a small game made for the game jam Ludum Dare 33.

It's called The Mammoth: A Cave Painting. Originally released for PC, it has you playing as a mother mammoth trying to defend her kids from humans attacking with spears.

At first you can manage this task but eventually you have to accept that it's impossible. And it's this feeling that the former Yager developers felt when making the game.

They're currently working on their first big title together due to arrive in the autumn of 2016. But for now they've brought The Mammoth: A Cave Painting to iOS and Android.

You can download it for free on the App Store and Google Play.
