iOS gets all the fanfare when it comes to exclusive games such as Oceanhorn, DEVICE 6, and Infinity Blade.

However, that doesn't mean that Android doesn't have a select few terrific exclusives of its own.

It seems like a shame that a rare few gaming gems go unnoticed because they're not in the App Store so its up to Pocket Gamer to rise up in their defence.

Before The Banner Saga made the difficult trudge over to Android, we had Tales of Illyria which, admittedly, brings its own little quirks to the table.

Quite clearly influenced by choose your own adventure books, Tales of Illyria sees you exploring a vast fantasy world, managing the well-being of your party as you go.

The combat uses a Final Fantasy style turn-based system that's surprisingly strategic. RPG fans in particular won't want to miss this.

Had Linken been released on iOS, it would definitely have been raved about.

It's a smart and minimal puzzler in which you link same shapes together, lighting them up. Once all of the shapes are linked and lit, it's on to the next level.

The music is almost as captivating as the gameplay and it's so lovely to look at. It would be criminal not to play this on your Android phone.

FL Racing Manager Pro
By M Games

FL Racing Manager Pro is an intriguing alternative to Motorsport Manager.

It's a racing management simulator where you're in control of pretty much everything from upgrading your car to investing in research and development.

There's a free 'lite' version that's worth checking out if you're unsure but for fans of the sport, you can't really go wrong here.

By Lukasz Jakowski

Ever dreamt of world domination? Age of Civilizations is totally your jam.

Fans of the Civilization franchise will also find plenty to love here as.

It's a turn-based strategy game chock full to the brim with features and stuff to manage. A real loss for the App Store but a major coup for Google Play.

As mesmerising to watch as it is to play, Stop! is so hard but so so clever.

The idea is that you help a dot get from the bottom of the screen to the top. Moving obstacles will threaten to block your path but a simple tap will, well, stop your dot from moving so you can avoid them.

Stop! quickly ramps up in difficulty, to the point where it seems almost impossible to complete. Definitely one for those one more go'ers.

Stranded Survival
By Matthew Tory

Stranded Survival

Stranded Survival may be a bit rough around the edges but it's heart is in the right place.

As its name suggests, the idea here is to explore an isolated island and its many caves to find materials, food, and tools to survive.

The world is randomly generated and there are over 100 items to discover. It has appeal for the Minecraft crowd but also to those looking for a straight up survival game with RPG elements.
