No iOS gamer missed this: the fantastic Super Mario Run launched in December. But what about Android users? Up until today, you've had to watch with envy while your iPhone-owning buddies tapped through nostalgic 2D side-scrolling levels.

But all that could be changing soon.

The ability to pre-register for Super Mario Run on Android devices appeared on the Google Play Store this morning. So it's definitely on its way.

There's a 30-second video on the store too so you can also see it in action. Looks identical to the iOS version, of course. No mention of price, but we can assume that'll be identical too.

There was a similar "notify me" option in Apple's App Store in the run-up to December's release. So does this mean Super Mario Run will appear on Android imminently? We've been speculating about this for a while now. The iOS version took about three months from announcement to release, but could the Android version leap its way here with more speed than that? Fingers crossed - what a lovely New Year gift that would be. If you pre-register now, you'll be notified as soon as the game becomes available.

In the meantime, check out our review of the iOS version to whet your appetite.
