Star Wars Battlefront II: 7 games to help mobile gamers feel the Force

Star Wars Battlefront II hits shops this Friday, providing console gamers with a second slice of cinematic multiplayer FPS action set in everyone's favourite sci-fi universe.

Simultaneously, in a galaxy not so very far away (the same one actually), a plucky group of mobile gamers is wondering where their own multiplayer Star Wars FPS got to.

Sorry to inform you, but the chances of such a port happening are slim to none.

We can't wave our hands and make this all seem okay, Obi-Wan style. But we can provide an eclectic list of Star Wars games available for mobile right now.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Let's start from the top. Not only is it Knights of the Old Republic the best Star Wars game on mobile, it's also one of the best RPGs ever made.

Take on the role of a mysterious Force-sensitive amnesiac and set off on an epic quest across the Star Wars universe with a cast of lovable characters. Will you become a noble Jedi, a formidable Sith, or something in between?

Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga

A glorious amalgam of two Lego Star Wars games, covering all six of the opening episodes in the series. This is where Traveller's Tales set the pattern for all subsequent Lego game spin-offs, and each game remains a joy to play.

Smash blocky storm troopers, collect thousands of studs, and watch as famous scenes are reenacted in charmingly slapdash style.

Star Wars: Force Arena

The Star Wars universe was always going to be ripe for the MOBA treatment. Epic symmetrical battles between two opposing sides, each led by powerful and iconic hero characters? Duh.

Star Wars: Force Arena turns out to be a reasonably nifty realisation of this template, making fine use of the Star Wars IP across tense strategic battles.

Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes

Again, making a free-to-play casual RPG with Star Wars characters was always likely to be a big success. But what's surprising about Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes is how it manages to keep you entertained over long haul.

The auto-battling action is pretty straight-forward, but the multiplayer set-up and deep levelling system proves compelling.

Angry Birds Star Wars

We still can't quite believe that a mash-up of Angry Birds and Stars Wars worked as well as it did. But Rovio approached the project with the right tongue-in-cheek tone and love of the source material to make it sing.

The first game is better though, if only because it covers the original trilogy. Ping Jedi birds into storm trooper pigs, and expect plenty of knowing nods to Star Wars lore.

Star Wars: Commander

The first and arguably only game on this list that we wouldn't call at least 'good,' Star Wars: Commander aims to be Clash of Clans with Star Wars pajamas - but falls well short of Supercell's giant.

Still, it's a reasonably entertaining - if glacially paced - freemium strategy management game that wisely leans hard on its top tier IP.

Star Wars: Puzzle Droids

Do you want to play an abstract match-three puzzler with a Star Wars theme? Don't be like that.

Star Wars: Puzzle Droids is actually surprisingly good fun, with decent visuals, snappy gameplay, and a rare cohesive narrative tying things together.
