Sony creates a new studio entirely focused on mobile, will build full-fledged games using Sony's IP

This is for the [mobile] players

Product: Sony Mobile news | Manufacturer: Sony Mobile Communications

Sony just announced the formation of a new studio called ForwardWorks that will only create games for mobile platforms focusing on Asia first.

Given Sony's failure on the handled market with the Playstation Vita and the failed attempt on mobile with Playstation Mobile, this isn't too surprising. But it does come at a convenient time when Nintendo is finally releasing apps and finding success on the crowded App Stores.

In any case, Sony is expected to bring "fully fledged titles" using their portfolio of IPs so it is moving in a different direction than Nintendo, which apps are meant as a small teaser for titles found on their platforms.

We'll see if Sony decides to expand the titles that comes from ForwardWorks to western countries as well.

I'm sure we'll learn a lot more about this during the year, so stay tuned.
