Sony Ericsson: Xperia Play games to cost £1-£10, future PlayStation handsets a possibility
|

In an interview with MCV, Sony Ericsson’s UK marketing boss David Hilton has revealed a number of details about his company’s plans for the Xperia Play

According to Hilton, Sony Ericsson plans to compete with Apple’s iPhone by offering something different - the company will target gamers who are positioned between casual and hardcore ends of the gaming spectrum. While Hilton admits that casual games such as Angry Birds have their place in their market, advances in hardware mean that there are possibilites for more complex games. He argues that gamers want to play these games as though they were on a console rather than a touchscreen and that the Xperia Play plans to satisfy this appetite. Games will be priced accordingly, with lower-tier games costing between £1 and £2 with more advanced games costing up to £10. This is more or less in line with what Pocket Gamer learned at this year's MWC, where Sony Ericsson told us that Xperia Play games would retail for "5-10 euros." In addition to revealing details about Sony Ericsson's more immediate plans, Hilton suggests that future Playstation handsets are a possibility should the Xperia Play be a success. "[T]here is there is the potential for this to grow," he said. MCV
