Play.com prices Xperia Play and Optimus 3D at £500+
Not quite the $400 we were led to believe
Play.com has shot out of the gates and slapped down a pre-order price for SIM-free versions of the LG Optimus 3D and the eagerly awaited Xperia Play.
Surprisingly, despite the increased speed and power of the tech inside it, the LG 3D handset is the cheaper of the two, coming in at £514.99, whereas the 1Ghz single-core Xperia is five pounds dearer at £519.99.
This latter price is a far cry from earlier rumours, which suggested that the Sony Ericsson device would be retailing in American stores at just $400 (£247 with today’s exchange rate).
Before you sharpen your pitchforks, it’s often the case that the first company to slap a price on a hotly-anticipated product does so without much knowledge about what the RRP will be in order to get the site talked about by fans of the device.
So while these prices may be high, it’ll be interesting to see whether the two phones remain at this level (five times the price of the PSPgo) closer to the official release.
