Sonic Jump Fever is a F2P platformer that'll have you battling your friends on iOS and Android this summer

Sega has announced that Sonic Jump Fever will be heading to iOS and Android this summer as a free-to-play game.

As you might have guessed, Fever is based on the Silver Award-winning Sonic Jump. The main difference between the two is that Fever is all about your score and competing against your friends.

So, it's a vertical jumping challenge that lets you play as Sonic, Knuckles, and the usual roster of characters from the Sonic games.

As you ascend, you'll aim to pull off combos by deploying boosters, upgrades, and unique character abilities.

The game's name is a reference to the Fever mode, which is attainable if you amass loads of points quickly, sending you into hyper-speed.

To keep the competition interesting, the playable levels will move up to the next zone twice a week.

Each time this happens, the scores will be reset. As such, you'll be able to fight for the top of the leaderboards once again.

It seems as though Sega is focusing heavily on Sonic's high-speed roots in Sonic Jump Fever, then. Which is just fine by me.
