Remember that April's fools joke called Smart Boy? It promised to turn your Android device into a GameBoy, letting you even play cartridges from the GameBoy Color and GameBoy. Turns out Hyperkin wasn't joking but fully intended to release it all along.

After more than a year without any news about it, it resurfaced at this year's E3 and was even playable. Hyperkin's now targeting a December release but dropped iOS support. That last part is not surprising as iOS' closed nature would make this an impossible task without jailbreaking your device.

The Smart Boy features the same buttons found on the original GameBoy and is compatible with Android 4.4.4 and up. The software-side of it will be open source and Hyperkin will even offer a royalty percentage of retail units sold if you can improve its firmware.

You can pre-order a developer kit here if you're interested or wait for the retail units.

You can eat your hat now Mark.
