The classic point-and-click adventure game Shadowgate may well get a chance to live again if its Kickstarter campaign is successful.

Released originally for the Mac in 1987 and later for the NES, Shadowgate is remembered as an innovative puzzle game that helped define the early point-and-click adventure game genre.

Despite its seminal status, however, Shadowgate's 25 year-old graphics aren't likely to excite modern day mobile gamers.

Knowing this, the Shadowgate's original designers David Marsh and Karl Roelofs secured rights to the game so they could recreate it for a new generation of players.

The last thing that you remember is...

Marsh and Roelofs are quick to point out that the Shadowgate remake will not be a simple port of the 1987 adventure game. Instead, it will feature new puzzles and challenges while retaining the iconic look and feel of the original game.

To that end, Shadowgate will preserve the same first-person perspective of the original game, but will feature updated graphics, music, and sound design in addition to the new puzzles.

Shadowgate's Kickstarter campaign ends on Sunday, November 25 and it is currently $29,000 away from reaching its funding goal of $120,000. Should the project be successfully funded, Shadowgate will be available for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android tablets.
