Nintendo might not be making mobile games just yet, but that doesn't mean you can't feel the Japanese giant's influence reverberating around the App Store on a regular basis.

Take Seabeard, for example.

This newly announced game is from the team behind Rolando, one of the earliest breakout hits of the smartphone era.

I can see the sea

Published by Backflip Studios as part of a new initiative, Seabeard looks to blend the finest parts of some of Nintendo's best-loved franchises into a sea-faring whole.

So, yes, there's dungeon-crawling and twee town building, all wrapped up in gorgeous cartoon presentation that's so endearingly cute it might make you throw up sugar and rainbows.

Here's a trailer to prove it.

There's a large open world for you to explore in Seabeard, and a variety of mini-games for you to play (including sailing and fishing).

And because the quests are randomly generated, there should apparently be an almost infinite amount of content for you to play through. That is a lot of content.

Seabeard should sail onto the App Store at some point in the summer. We will, of course, keep you updated when we hear anything more about it.

In the meantime, why not check out the raft of Seabeard screenshots in the gallery at the top of this page. And, yes, that was a deliberate pun.
