Samsung reveals budget Galaxy Tab 3

Try not to get too excited, but Samsung has announced another new tablet. This time it's the 7-inch Galaxy Tab 3, a low/mid-range tablet that will come as a wi-fi only model or with wi-fi and 3G.

And, yes, you can even make calls if you want.

It might not set the world alight with its 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1024x600-pixel display, 3-megapixel camera, and fairly miserly 8 or 16GB of internal storage, but if you don't need a tablet to be incredibly powerful and want to save a few pounds this might be a good choice.

That does of course depend on how much Samsung will be selling them for, although you can expect the Tab 3 to be the sort of tablet that will come bundled with a new mobile phone purchase on contract.

Spot the difference: Wi-fi vs 3G (Answer: it's the earpiece)

The Galaxy Tab 3 comes with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and the new-look Samsung Hub, which now brings all of the various Hubs we've seen previously into one place (Music, Game, Video, and Learning).

Other vital statistics include a 4000mAh battery, external card slot, dual-channel wi-fi, and the tablet itself measuring 111.1x188x9.9mm and weighing in at 302g for the wi-fi model (due for release in May) and 306g for the 3G one (June).

He always had a hunch mobiles would become quite popular, but possibly didn't realise how powerful (and, ironically, returning to 20 minutes between charges). Jonathan's job is to continue advising on the best hardware to buy, in order to enjoy games that have advanced considerably since those long days and nights testing Double Dragon on the C64.
