More good news for Samsung - UK retailer Phones4U has revealed today that the South Korean firm’s latest flagship handset, the Galaxy S III, has not only sold rather well in the first few days on sale, but managed to outsell every other handset in 2012.

Admittedly, these first day figures do include pre-orders taken over the course of the past two months, but it’s still very encouraging news for Samsung.

Jump to it

Phones4U credited its JUMP (Just Update My Phone) contract as the driving factor behind such high early sales, saying that ‘a high proportion’ of new purchases were on the scheme.

JUMP allows phone users to upgrade their handsets every six months rather than wait it out until their contract ends, allowing for much swifter upgrades than a typical phone contract.

The Galaxy S III is, as you might recall from that terrifying advert, is the first phone ‘built for humans’ and not dolphins, packing in a quad-core processor nestled snugly behind a 4.8-inch screen.

Humans can also access features such as ‘it definitely does not stand for Siri’ S-Voice, as well as some rather natty camera functions including the ability to automatically pick out good shots in burst mode.

We weren’t too excited about getting the handset during our semi-regular Pocket Gamer mass debate the other day, but we’re not really the target audience given that half our staff are actually otters in suits.
