New Samsung 5-inch Galaxy blower looks, smells, and sounds like the Galaxy Note II
But isn't
From the outside, Samsung's newly announced Galaxy Grand Android 'phablet' looks almost identical to the firm's high-end Galaxy Note II.
Similarly sized screen (5-inch display compared to the Galaxy Note II's 5.55-inch display), consistently placed rear camera lens, almost identical industrial design.
To an untrained eye from a reasonable distance, then, it's fair to say the Galaxy Grand and the Galaxy Note II are indistinguishable.
Except they aren't.
Mini-MePerhaps the biggest giveaway is the Galaxy Grand's 800x480 resolution. I mean, a WVGA 5-inch screen just doesn't cut it any more in the increasingly competitive smartphone landscape.
Furthermore, the Galaxy Grand is powered by a dual-core processor (running at 1.2GHz), which seems a strange decision on the part of Samsung given the proliferation of quad-core blowers.
Saying that, the Galaxy Grand does run Android 4.1.2 (a.k.a. Jelly Bean) out of the box, sports 1GB of RAM, and packs a 2100mAh battery under the hood.
So, what exactly is this brand-new device? A mid-range carbon copy of the Galaxy Note II, or an enlarged underpowered Galaxy S III?
