Portal is set to hit the Nvidia Shield on May 12th via the Google Play Store

3 people just cheered

Product: Portal | Developer: Valve | Genre: 3D, Puzzle
For: Android   Also on: iPhone

Here's that bit of news that we've all been waiting for. Portal is finally set to hit the Nvidia Shield on May 12th.

What do you mean you have no idea what the Nvidia Shield is? It's that foldy Android-powered handheld that you can play PC games on if you're close enough to your PC to establish a wireless connection.

And now a game that came out in 2007 is set to be released for it. Granted, it's a brilliant game, but I'm pretty sure everyone in the world has played Portal now. I have. Twice.

Play Store facility

Perhaps the most interesting bit of this lump of news is that Portal is being released on the Google Play Store.

It won't be available on any none-Shield things, but I guess there's a slim chance we might get some Source games hitting other Android handsets in the not too distant future.

Imagine multiplayer Team Fortress 2 on the bus. Half-Life 2 on the toilet. Left 4 Dead while actually hiding behind a sofa. We can dream. We can all dream.

Played it on xbox360 and I gotta say it's a legend!
Every puzzle is fun and co-op is more fun.
Some places look kinda awkward but still it's a good game.

Can't wait to play this on the OUYA! Every single Shield game has worked flawlessly on my Google Play modded OUYA and I expect this will be no different.

Not for the first time, I'm with you on this one @Motherja Jay, buddy. In fact, I'm seriously considering eBaying off a bunch of my less favourite games to raise funds for one of these Nvidia Shield thingy-me-bobs... just so I can play Portal. To be perfectly honest, I've fancied one for a while.

@Harry, you never know mate, there might just be four cheers then!! :-)

@Contest Chris: PORTAL IS AMAZING! Portal 2 is even more amazing - in fact, 2 is the best co-op first person puzzle game ever created!

It's by Valve, who made Half Life - PC's best game and world's best fps, so yea it's kinda a beat deal that it is being ported to S.H.I.E.L.D. (cuz' you know, steaming games is cool, but not useful for those "on the go games" and other mobile gamers) And having tried it myself (streaming is not so satisfactory - ask Dark Souls 2 :P) it's finally gonna be worth something.

Oh and despite source engine being old - yea I know texture resolution is hideous and lighting effects are just plain out dated - but it's a classic and I would like to enjoy it once again but without the constrains of being bound by my WiFi.

Portal is immensely overrated. I just can't stand first person puzzles. And the graphics looks like shit now anyways.
