After numerous delays and much consternation among Android owners, PopCap has revealed that its first Android titles will be Plants vs Zombies and Peggle.

Both games will be released early next year.

Sameer Baroova, development director at PopCap Games, revealed the news while speaking with Pocket Gamer.

“I am delighted to confirm that we are working on bringing both Peggle and Plants vs Zombies to Android in early 2011,” he said.

Baroova was speaking in response to an outcry from Android gamers after the brand new Windows Phone 7 platform saw release of a PopCap game before Android. The Google platform has long been promised PopCap’s support, so the move felt a little like queue jumping.

Jumping the queue

Regarding Windows Phone 7, Baroova pointed to its “compelling user experience around game discovery and connected gameplay experience,” as well as the fact that it “does not have a fragmented device base like Android.”

Despite confirmation that Android’s two major weaknesses were factors in the delay, PopCap’s promise to bring its two finest smartphone games to the platform should go some way to assuaging fans' fears.
