PG's top moments of the week - Free games, Exiles...

Every week, Pocket Gamer provides a weekly digest of the most important and popular stories from these digital pages.

This will be our last weekly wrap-up of the year. But don't worry, you'll still find loads on Pocket Gamer over Christmas.

We've got guides to help out if you find a new iOS or Android device under the tree. We've also got our big game of the year awards too, of course. And we'll be looking at what 2015 will bring for handheld gamers.

But let's talk about last week, because the future is scary and weird.

First, we finished off our collection of free games with Mucho Party, RGB Express, Skullduggery, Card City Nights, and Detective Grimoire.

Thanks to the developers who generously gave their games to the giveaway. We hope you managed to get the lot!

Platform Panic

In new releases, we saw games like minimalist strategy game Galcon 2, and Nitrome's procedurally-generated Mega Man-alike Platform Panic.

There were also new SimCity and Brothers in Arms games, but they were rubbish.

Android gamers finally got to play Hearthstone after a few months, Crossy Road after a few weeks, and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars after a few years. Not to forget the long-awaited 80 Days.

But you robot-loving Google fans could feel superior for once for getting early access to Crescent Moon's epic sci-fi RPG Exiles. iOS gamers will have to wait until next year.

Elsewhere, we looked at some creative ways for iOS games to improve a Christmas party and offered some tips for playing Seabeard.

Papers Please

In the world of news, Telltale and Mojang are teaming up for a mysterious Minecraft adventure game, Simogo gave us a lovely Christmas freebie, Flappy Bird was the most Googled game of 2014, an N64 emulator's coming to iOS, and nudity returned to Papers, Please.

Around Steel Media

What were the ten most watched videos on AppSpy? What are the best gamebooks on Android? And just how good is Galcon 2? All of these questions, and at least four more, are all answered on our lovely website this week.

The holiday season means apps, apps and more apps, and 148Apps delivers this week with Editor’s Choice reviews of Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath and Papers, Please, as well as hardware reviews and our staff picks for game of the year. See it all here…
