Fiddled Sony job listing hints at Android-powered PlayStation phone

The rumours have been rife for while now that Sony is planning a PlayStation phone running Google’s Android OS.

Indeed, many reputable sources have insisted (off the record, naturally) that it’s a case of when rather than if. A new piece of information stemming from Sony itself has added fuel to these rumours.

Sony has posted a job listing for a Senior Server Engineer, which doesn’t suggest anything special until you look down the list of requirements to the “Highly desirable” section. There, second from the bottom, it was initially stated that “Experience in mobile development, specifically Android is a plus.”

Equally tellingly is that the Android reference has since been removed, suggesting that the Japanese giant is sitting on something big.

Phandroid has also read something into the fact that the location of the job is in Soho, London, linking this to Sony Ericsson’s Hammersmith base.

I’m not so convinced that the location adds much to the story - London’s hardly an unusual or minor business location – but that fiddled job listing is hard to ignore.
