Pixel Heroes: Byte and Magic is a hardcore RPG that lets you get straight to the nitty gritty of mashing beasts with your axes and spells.

It's part roguelike, part very old school RPG. You pick a team from the heroes wandering around a tavern, then stomp out in the world to take on quests and forge your legend.

Except you'll probably just die a lot instead. This is an unflinchingly tough game, and you need to stock up on potions and salves before you even think about heading into one of its dungeons.

As pared back RPG experiences go, Pixel Heroes: Byte and Magic has a lot to offer. But if you're looking for something casual you're better off looking elsewhere.

Harry used to be really good at Snake on the Nokia 5110. Apparently though, digital snake wrangling isn't a proper job, so now he writes words about games instead.
