Persona 4 coming to smartphones and tablets as a social card battler

It's been quite a busy week for Japanese role-playing games on mobile platforms.

First, Square Enix announced The World Ends With You: Solo Remix for iOS, then its highly-anticipated original RPG Final Fantasy Dimensions came to the App Store.

Now, Atlus's Persona 4 will make its mobile debut, albeit as a social card battler that will run on the GREE Network much like Konami's recently announced Metal Gear Solid: Social Ops.

Persona 4 The Card Battle casts players in the role of a 'Card Master', who can collect over 400 cards drawn from the Persona universe and use them to fight other Persona users in battle.

As is the custom with many social card battlers, players will have the option to join forces on tougher boss fights, although much of the card battling can be done solo.

Pre-registration for Persona 4 The Card Battle has already begun, and the game is expecting a late September release window.

It is unknown whether Persona 4 The Card Battle will be released for Europe or the United States at this time, although it isn't outside the realm of possibility if Persona 4 The Golden proves to be a success for the Vita this autumn.
