We promised you back in June that we'd update you with any information on the distinctive-looking turn-based RPG Paper Sorcerer.

So, well, here we are.

In a post on the TIGSource forums, Paper Sorcerer dev UltraRunawayGames confirms that it expects to launch its new game this month.

However, UltraRunawayGames doesn't cite any specific target platforms in the forum post, meaning this could be a reference to the PC versions only. That would obviously mean the iPad and Android versions are due out later.

Paper Sorcerer caught our eye on account of the game's black-and-white art style. Oh, and because it was successfully Kickstarted.

Don't think for a second, though, that this is some sort of shallow game. Having checked the game out briefly, I can confirm that there's a very deep set of typical RPG systems here with which to get to grips.

You play a sorcerer who's been banished inside a book and stripped of his powers and minions. By exploring the dungeons (from a first-person perspective) and solving environment-based puzzles, you'll acquire equipment and weapons to upgrade your party.

The turn-based battles are particularly complex. You have to consider the number of turns it will take for spells to burn out, to consider when to play defensively, and to consider switching up your fighting style in accordance with the enemy type.

Presuming its touchscreen controls work as promised, Paper Sorcerer should be one all fans of dungeon-crawling RPGs download on launch day.
