Yesterday, a report by The Korea Times (via Resetera) noted that PUBG Corp has filed a lawsuit against US-based Epic Games. Since Epic Games is partnered with Tencent, it's an odd one to digest, but not at all surprising given Fortnite's growing popularity.

Battle Royale isn't a new deal by far, with games like DayZ, H1Z1: King of the Kill, PUBG, Fortnite, and more on the market, I think it might be a bit too late to suggest that any one company owns Battle Royale-style modes. PUBG's complaint in this lawsuit, however, is that it's pointed out a number of major similarities between it and Fortnite.

Of course, this hasn't come out of the blue. Since Fortnite brought out its BR mode last September, Bluehole had been voicing its concerns - especially since Epic Games is the creator of its licensed engine. It's not so much the 'last man standing' rule, but rather the similarities in interface, structure, and the references to PUBG in promoting Fortnite to its community.

There's not much else to go on at the moment and we're not sure when the hearing will take place, but it'll be interesting to see how it turns out. If things hot up, it'll also be interesting to see where Tencent stands on the matter.

What do you guys think? Is this an argument that'll hold up in court or is it a move destined to fail? Let us know in those comments below.
