Ouya founder and CEO Julie Uhrman has revealed that her company's Android-powered console will be treated to a hardware refresh on an annual basis.

"There will be a new Ouya every year. There will be an Ouya 2 and an Ouya 3," Uhrman told website Engadget.

This means the Ouya's refresh cycle will be more like a smartphone or tablet, rather than a console like the Xbox or PlayStation, which typically have multi-year life cycles.

According to Uhrman, every game you download on your Ouya will be linked to your user account rather than the hardware that you downloaded it on.

So, you shouldn't have any problem playing them on future iterations of the console.

Updated versions of the Ouya are likely to feature faster processors and increased storage. Ouya's first-gen console houses a humble 8GB of storage, after all.

The $99 Ouya is currently available for pre-order in the US.
