Will it hit $8 million?

Record-breaking Ouya Kickstarter heads into the final stretch

After the announcement of the Ouya Android console in July, interested parties flocked to the project’s Kickstarter to help it reach its ambitious $950,000 funding goal.

Then, a mere eight hours after the launch its Kickstarter campaign, the Ouya was funded with a full 29 days left to raise funds.

Fast forward through those 29 days (well, 28 technically) and the project sits at a record-breaking $7,173,000 raised – the highest amount raised for a Video Game project via Kickstarter.

Ouya? Ooo-yeah!

Although the Kickstarter was by no means flagging, Ouya infused a good amount of life into the last week of the drive by releasing a new Limited Edition Backer Exclusive – a handsome brown console with a brushed metal finish that managed to attract $725,280 (at time of writing).

With its funding well-past met, and established developers lining up to support the puissant (that means potent in show-off langauge) little Android console, the Ouya will officially meet its funding goal on August 9th and will set a very high bar for the next game-related project to meet or exceed.
