It looks like legendary game designer John Carmack has been hard at work since he became CTO at Oculus VR a few weeks ago.

One of the things he's been concentrating on is the SDK for the firm's upcoming VR head-mounted display for video games, the Oculus Rift.

In particular, Carmack's been focusing on support in the Oculus Rift SDK for mobile platforms.

Speaking to a panel at GDC Europe, Oculus Rift VP of product Nate Mitchell said that Carmack has "a ridiculous amount of good ideas that he's working into the SDK. Especially around mobile, frankly."

According to Mitchell, Android is the mobile platform of choice for Oculus Rift because, unlike iOS, it's an 'open' platform for peripherals.

All that being said, strapping a helmet on to snatch a couple of minutes of gaming on the bus to work will result in you getting some funny looks.

On the plus side, you won't be able to see the people casting those funny looks in your direction.

And let's just not mention the Virtual Boy, shall we?
