While the vast majority of modern video games include some type of online multiplayer component, a lot of games lack support for one of the most gratifying forms of gaming: the ability to play games together with friends in the same room.

Thankfully, for owners of NVIDIA's SHIELD Android TV, there's a rich assortment of games available featuring local multiplayer support, including everything from kart racing to fighting games.

Here's a look at eight games worth playing with friends and family members on SHIELD Android TV. It might not be a bad time to invest in extra SHIELD controllers to play these multiplayer titles.

GeForce NOW Games

The following games are available to stream with a GeForce NOW membership (free for three months and $7.99 a month after that) at no additional cost. Certain premium titles are also available to purchase separately on GeForce NOW such as LEGO Jurassic World. Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed

There have been some pretty imaginative kart racing games over the past couple of decades but Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed takes racing to a whole new level.

The four-player split-screen mode will see you racing around courses whose terrain changes dramatically from road to water to air making it necessary for you to transform your vehicle from car to boat to plane.

Ultra Street Fighter IV

The definitive edition of the fourth major entry in Capcom's popular one-on-one fighting franchise, adds six new playable characters to the table bringing the total roster of fighters to 44.

The game also rebalances the combat and gives players the chance to select characters from previous games in the Street Fighter series complete with their historical move lists. What's not to like?

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light

The Tomb Raider series is back with a vengeance thanks to recent triple-A titles like Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light sees Lara fighting the forces of an ancient evil with help from a Mayan Warrior named Totec. It's the first Tomb Raider game to offer a multiplayer element with Lara and Totec cooperating to solve puzzles using their unique abilities.

LEGO Jurassic World

TT Games has been creating LEGO video game adaptations of popular franchises for over a decade now, and the family-friendly formula of platforming, puzzle-solving, and cooperative play is as compelling as ever. LEGO Jurassic World recreates the most memorable scenes from all four Jurassic Park films giving players the chance to unlock more than 100 characters and 20 dinosaur species.

Stikbold! ($9.99)

The game of dodgeball has never been so colourfully reproduced than in Stikbold!.

The game pits teams against one another, launching missiles of varying types and fighting bosses in a succession of bouts that defy explanation.

Four players can get involved in surreal battles of epic proportions.

Chariot ($7.49)

Chariot follows the fortunes of a princess who has to transport her late father's coffin to its final resting place while picking up plenty of gold along the way.

Two players can participate in the quest by pushing the wheeled coffin uphill and down slopes, setting it swinging across chasms using ropes and trying to figure out how to use the laws of physics to get to the end of each level.

Clash ($5.31)

Are you a fan of multiplayer battle arena games and twin-stick shooters? If so, Clash will tick all the right boxes for you.
