Nvidia Shield tablets bought in the past year 'pose a fire hazard', need to be replaced
|

Nvidia has announced that it's recalling some of its Shield tablets that were sold between July 2014 and July 2015 as the batteries in them can overheat and "pose a fire hazard."

If this applies to you, then you need to submit a claim for a replacement tablet. Nvidia is also asking you to stop using the tablet "except as needed to participate in the recall and back up data."

This only affects the Shield tablets that have a Y01 battery type and not those with a B01 battery type.

Here's what you need to do to find out which battery type you have as well as submit your claim for a replacement if required (as detailed here):

1. Update your tablet to the latest software (Settings>About tablet>System updates)

2. Identify your tablet's battery type (Settings>About tablet>Status)

3. If you have a Y01 battery type you need to tap on "Y01" to start the recall procedure

4. You'll be told your tablet's serial number. This needs to be entered into the form at the bottom of this page along with your personal information.

5. The claim number that you receive then needs to be entered into the Recall Notice on your tablet

The importance of doing this cannot be understated if you bought an Nvidia Shield tablet since July 2014. Think about it: if the tablet sets on fire then the worst case scenario is it burning your house down.
