Do you want a powerful Android smartphone but don't fancy getting tied into a long contract or spending more than £200?

I have some good news for you, then, my friend. That's because Google has slashed the prices of its Gold Award-winning Nexus 4 handset.

An 8GB version of this 4.7-inch SIM-free smartphone will now set you back just £159 / $199. The 16GB version, meanwhile, will set you back just £199 / $249.

To put that into perspective, a similarly specced Samsung Galaxy S III retails for about £300.

The Nexus 4 runs a vanilla version of Android, which means you don't get any of the bloatware that manufacturers often add to their own handsets. Plus, you'll get the latest version of the OS before anyone else.

At review, our hardware man Jonathan Morris said that "the Nexus 4 isn't just about a cheap price tag. It's a great phone in its own right and if it wasn't available for so little via Google's own store, I'd happily recommend it for purchase through a regular phone store."

You can grab a Nexus 4 from Google's own web store right now. And we'd suggest that if you want one, you should get in there quickly. At that price, they're going to be flying off the virtual shelves.
