Following in the studded footsteps of the iOS edition, New Star Soccer for Android will be re-launched as a free-to-play game next month by publisher Thumbstar Games.

If you haven't played it, New Star Soccer is a perilously addictive football RPG in which you occasionally flick a ball at a goal.

So, yes, you spend less time on the pitch, and more time keeping sponsors happy, buying posh chalets for your overpaid players, playing mini-games, and wasting cash in the casino.

Thumbstar, which was previously responsible for pushing games like Talisman Prologue and Fatty, will strip New Star Soccer of its £1.99 price tag; include the gameplay changes we've seen on iOS; and parade the game around the world on Google Play and the Amazon Appstore.

"I'm really looking forward to working with Thumbstar and can't wait to see what that can do for New Star Soccer on Android. I'm sure this is the start of a fantastic relationship," New Star Soccer creator Simon Read said.
