Gold Award-winning racer Need for Speed: Most Wanted screeches onto Android devices

Need for Speed: Most Wanted has outrun the App Store police and accelerated onto Android devices at a rate of knots.

The latest entry in EA's high-octane racing series on mobile has been hailed as a return to form, with our reviewer describing the iPhone and iPad version earlier today as "the street racer that iOS devices have been waiting for".

Well, after patiently waiting for, err, an hour or so, Android users can now get in on the tyre-squealing action. It's as simple as firing up Google Play, downloading the game, choosing one of more than 35 officially licensed cars, and putting the virtual hammer down.

Although we were slightly disappointed by the lack of multiplayer in the iOS edition of Need for Speed: Most Wanted, we declared the title's tilt steering controls as the best we've ever experienced in a mobile racer - one fact which helped the game earn a Pocket Gamer Gold Award.

If you want to play Need for Speed: Most Wanted on Android, you'll have to own a fairly capable handset (Galaxy S IIs are not supported) and be prepared to cough up £4.79 / $6.99.

Galaxy Note II owners on T-Mobile, meanwhile, will be able to download the game for free. Lucky them.
