N64 emulator lands on the Android Market

Android 64

Product: N64oid | Developer: Yongzh

Yongzh - creator of popular emulators for Android such as Nesoid, GameBoid, SNEsoid, and Gensoid - has unleashed his latest creation upon the unsuspecting Android Market today, this time taking emulation fans slap-bang into the mid-'90s with N64oid.

As you can probably gather from the title, N64oid is a Nintendo 64 emulator designed for high-end Android devices to run legally made homebrew software designed around the classic 64-bit hardware.

Oh, and probably some games that you definitely already own the cartridge for and that you’ve ripped yourself to your Android phone and not downloaded illegally. You knew that already, of course.

We haven’t yet had a chance to test out the speed of some of the big name titles like Mario 64 or Zelda: Ocarina of Time, but considering my old 2.4GHz PC used to struggle with some of them back in the day I wouldn’t get overly excited about the prospect of running a title like Perfect Dark smoothly.

N64oid is available now on the Android Market for $5.99. Do let us know in the comments thread how your handset handles it, as it's a big help to other Android owners who might not be sure of their own phone's capabilities.
