App Army Assemble: Mordheim: Warband Skirmish - A solid adaptation of the tabletop game?

Mordheim: Warband Skirmish is a brand new Games Workshop title based on the Mordheim tabletop game.

It's a turn-based battler in which you can fight in numerous different ways. Either from the shadows, at range, or up close and personal.

You've also got three factions (Reiklanders, Middenheimers and Marienburgers) to choose from that each have their own fighting style, and more to follow after launch.

We let the App Army loose on it to learn what they had to say. Read on to find out.

I'm pretty impressed so far. It's a nice strategy game with great graphics and sound effects.

It's fairly easy to grasp as a game but one that you need to spend a little time with in order to learn properly and assess your strategy.

Tom-Donna Clark

I really like this game. The graphics are good and the turn based action is pretty easy to learn.

If you like turn based battles and adventure this one just might be for you. Great job on this one.

Glenn Goldberg

This game definitely had some time and love poured into it. The graphics and sound are beautiful, it's easy to learn, and I have a feeling that there's a depth here I haven't gotten to yet.

My issue is that it brings nothing new to the table. It is a decent strategy game but that is it. You've played this game before, many times, under different guises.

Chase Geier

I like this game a lot. It looks and sounds great and it's pretty fun. It seems there will be a lot to do and customise and I see myself playing this all the way through.

Can't wait to see what this game holds.

Olivier Boesch

As Glenn says, there's nothing new here, even if it's a pleasant experience. Unfortunately, the strategy remains rather simplistic, the graphics a bit rigid, and the interface is poor.

David Albertson

If you're a fan of turn based fantasy games there's a lot to like here. Definitely not rewriting the genre but there's enough strategy here to please almost any fan.

Light stealth, cover mechanics, and skill advancement provide plenty for the tactically minded.

George Brawidjaya

Good game so far - another fine release from Games Workshop. Nice customisation and really intriguing story.

Quincy Jones

Interesting game and decent strategy. I like that you can really develop your characters and that mercenaries will abandon you if they get injured.

There's little things to love but it's nothing spectacular.

Owen Buck

I went into the experience with high hopes, being a big fan of Mordheim (and most things Warhammer). I wasn't too disappointed.

There's enough of a nod to the tabletop origins for the diehard fan to be interested, but it's accessible enough for anyone looking for a decent skirmish.

Graphically, it's suitably dark and eerie and I'm sure I recognise some of the characters from various Citadel miniatures, which is nice.
