Square Enix has revised the costume design for an upcoming Final Fantasy character because it was deemed too revealing by the fans, and showed off too much skin.

No, you haven't woken up in a parallel universe where gamers suddenly want female characters to cover up and put some clothes on. This supposed outrage was in fact directed at a male character.

Square Enix says - in a video translated by RocketNews24 - that players said the male hero of Mobius Final Fantasy (previously Mevius) was showing too much skin in the skimpy onion knight outfit that reveals his abs, hips, and a smidgen of butt.

Skimpy

Producer Yoshinori Kitase heard the feedback and says "we’re moving forward during development and letting it evolve while taking into consideration users’ opinions, so I asked the character designer to make a change".

Now Wal (the main character's name, which can be changed) is showing a little less leg. But his outfit still has enough negative space to show off his ugly-ass back tattoo.

Kitase notes that the decision isn't set in stone and says that if "enough people say they like those hiplines, then we might bring the original costume back."
