Mistwalker announces Blade Guardian for iOS, and Party Wave for Android

Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi and his Mistwalker team may not have made an especially auspicious iOS debut with their Party Wave game (see screenshot below), but Sakaguchi & team have a chance to make amends with Blade Guardian.

Unlike the company's initial bright and breezy effort, Blade Guardian (see screenshots over there on the right) is a "tower defense real-time strategy game".

Is it just us, or does this look a bit like an Amiga game? Not that this is a bad thing, of course.

It sounds and looks fairly typical of the genre, but one bit of the blurb caught our attention: "Transform BLADEs [the game's term for turrets, it seems] into spherical shape and roll them around on stages using gyro sensor in order to defeat enemies."

We're not entirely sure what this means, but we're imagining some kind of Fieldrunners-meets-Monkey Ball concoction. Blade Guardian will hit the App Store on October 1st.

You remember that underwhelming Party Wave Mistwalker game we mentioned in the intro? Well, it's coming to Android.

Hopefully, we haven't dampened your enthusiasm too much. While we found the game lacked substance in our review of it on iOS, there's always the chance the Mistwalker team has gone away and improved the experience.

After all, the original iOS title will be updated on October 1st - the same day as the Android launch. With any luck, version 1.2 will add a bit more meat to the simplistic surfing bone.

All of which means October 1st is going to be a bit of a bumper day for Mistwalker.
