Minecraft developer Markus "Notch" Persson created a miniaturised 2D version of his extremely popular build-'em-up at last year's Ludlum Dare game creation competition.

You can now play said title Minicraft on your Android-powered phone or tablet. Oh, and it's completely free of charge. Did we mention that?

Minicraft, which took just 48 hours to create, allows you to complete many of the same tasks as its bigger brother Minecraft, such as slaying enemies, harvesting resources, and, of course, crafting.

Folstad Consulting, the development team behind this Android port, has implemented touchscreen controls, as well as the ability to use a keyboard. Handy.

You can grab Minicraft from the Android Market right now for free [download]. In case you were wondering, by the way, the Android version of Minecraft - Pocket Edition bagged a Bronze Award last October.
