Minecraft developer Mojang has offered the world a quick update on the status of Minecraft - Pocket Edition version 0.9.

Thanks to Mojang business chief Daniel Kaplan, we now know that the team is busy restructuring code to facilitate "significantly bigger worlds" and that the team is updating the AI and inventory.

Mojang will also pause the beta testing access to Pocket Realms, and will resurrect it after the upcoming release of PC Realms later this year.

"We don't have a release date [for 0.9] yet," Kaplan says. "But so far, everything is going to plan."

But this Minecraft - Pocket Edition blog post represents just a tiny slither of what we know will be available in the next version of the game. Through tweets, Reddit messages, Instagram photos, and a handy list on the Minecraft Wiki, we've cobbled together a complete list of upcoming features.

Do note that all this stuff is currently in development, and Mojang may decide not to include all of these features in the next version.

Larger worlds

Minecraft - Pocket Edition used to max out at 256x256 block worlds. Now, though, you can also pick medium, large, and even infinitely big worlds.

Don't worry: your device will warn you about the potential performance hiccups before you generate an endlessly big universe in which to play.

Caves, grass, lava, and more

Mojang will add tall grass and deep caves, but will include an option to turn them off so they don't impact the game's performance on older devices.

You'll also find lava pools and mine shafts.

More biomes

Biomes are ecosystem areas with their own pre-determined geographical features, plant spawns, animal spawns, and weather patterns.

There are six biomes in Minecraft - Pocket Edition (Desert, Tundra, Forest, Plains, Ocean, and Extreme Hills), though pretty much all of the major biomes introduced in Minecraft 1.7.2 version will appear on mobile.

So, expect to see the likes of Mesa; Savanna; Sunflower Plains; Birch and Flower Forest; and Taiga. But Mojang man Tommaso Checchi says that you shouldn't hold out for Jungle, Roofed Forest, and Extreme+ Mountains. For technical reasons, I should say.

Endermen

These creepy bastards will completely ignore you if you don't provoke them. But simply look directly at an Enderman and you're in trouble. Checchi says that they'll be in 0.9.

Be afraid.

Villagers

Mojang game dev Johan Bernhardsson says that he "hopes to add villagers" in 0.9. These guys spawn in small towns. You can trade items with them through a bartering system.

Slimes

A nuisance hostile mob, often found in swamps. They split into smaller slimes when killed, and drop slimeballs when completely vanquished. Mojang game dev Jens Bergensten has said that he's working on their AI.

Wolves and ocelots

These are two animals that will try to kill you. You can, however, also tame them and make them into pets if you know how.

Wolves were confirmed on the Mojang blog, and ocelots got outed by Bergensten on Twitter.
