Breaking new ground

Minecraft - Pocket Edition is now available on the Kindle Fire, having finally built itself a home on the Amazon Appstore.

Previously, Kindle Fire owners had to either root their tablets or mess about with third-party app subscriptions if they wanted to install Mojang's supremely successful crafting sim on their device.

Thankfully, Amazon has provided a more direct (and legitimate) route for pickaxe proponents to get their mobile mining fix, offering the Android version of Minecraft - Pocket Edition for $6.99 from its app store [buy].

Interestingly, the appearance of a Kindle-compatible version of Minecraft just so happens to coincide with the release of the updated Kindle Fire range. What are the odds?

And before you ask, Amazon customers will be getting the most recent release of Minecraft - Pocket Edition (version 0.4.0), meaning players can enjoy additional farming options and reduce the ground to cuboid rubble with sticks of TNT.

Incidentally, if you're new to the world of Minecraft, we strongly recommend you check out our Minecraft - Pocket Edition survival guide. It might save your life (or, at the very least, show you how to make a torch).
