Mig 2D: Retro Shooter has the sort of soundtrack that used to drift out of arcades everywhere in the late '80s and early '90s. Yep, all bouncing chip beats and infuriating loops.

And as you might imagine from the game's title, that retro-on-the-sleeve influence is an important part of the experience.

Mig 2D: Retro Shooter is a top-down shooter that sees you weaving your way through some science fiction dogfights. So, you'll be blasting aliens, biplanes, and airships out of the sky from the relative safety of your titular fighter jet.

There's a smooth-edged cartoon style to the graphics that's sort of reminiscent of the likes of 1942.

Furthermore, you'll have to contend with air-, land-, and sea-based enemies if you want to survive here.

There are giant bosses for you to shoot into little bitty pieces, and a series of mini-games to play. Just to keep things fresh. Well, y'know, fresh in a retro way.

Mig 2D: Retro Shooter is more sedate than a bullet-hell shooter. There aren't any waves of fire to dodge, for example, but there's still a challenge here. Oh, and the single-finger controls mean anyone can pick it up and give it a go.

Mig 2D: Retro Shooter is available on the Google Play Store right now for free. You can fork out for an IAP to get rid of the adverts if you want, though.
