Updated on March 8th, at 09:48: After a brief delay, Metal Slug X has appeared on Google Play. Android users can now download the game for £2.49 / $3.99 [buy].

Original story follows...

Another day, another Metal Slug game from the port-happy folks over at SNK Playmore.

From midnight tonight, the Neo Geo-worshipping coders are giving iOS gamers the chance to blast through Metal Slug X.

Rather than a full-fledged sequel, mind, Metal Slug X is actually a remake of Metal Slug 2, which itself appeared on the App Store last month.

While the premise in Metal Slug X remains the same (General Morden is still working with Martians to achieve world domination), this version of the game offers a range of graphical, audio, and gameplay tweaks.

First off, Metal Slug X features a bunch of new weapons which weren't present in the first iteration of the shooter sequel. These include bouncing land mines, homing missiles, and the endearingly named "Iron Lizard" remote control projectile.

SNK Playmore has also re-jigged enemy locations, with new spawn points creating an altogether different playthrough experience.

There's also now the option to play though completed stages independent of the campaign in the newly added Mission Mode.

If you can stomach a second Metal Slug game in as many months, Metal Slug X will go live on the App Store at midnight tonight. Prepare to shell out £2.49 / $3.99 for the privilege.
