League of Legends: Wild Rift's latest dev update details the team's approach to adjusting different champions for mobile

Riot have released an update video on how League of Legends: Wild Rift has been progressing since it was first announced back in October of last year. This dev diary focuses on how they're progressing with the champions themselves.

Brian Feeney, Design Lead on the game, spoke about how the philosophy was to allow players to perform the same impressive outplays that are possible in the PC version of the game on mobile. He added that some of the champions will be identical to their PC counterparts whilst others have been changed slightly.

For instance, some champions with purely passive abilities such as Vayne will also have an active option in addition. Vayne's Silverbots ability, for example, will have the same stacking effect as it does on PC but you will also be able to tap it to increase her attack speed instantly, which sounds terrifying.

Meanwhile, point and click abilities such as Miss Fortune's Double Up or Annie's disintegrate have been turned into skill shots because they were found to be too finicky during playtesting due to the different control scheme. Elsewhere some of the abilities have just been changed seemingly for the fun of it such as Lux's Final Spark gaining even more range than it has in regular League of Legends.

There was also a brief update on a release date or lack thereof in this case. The team are still testing out various aspects of Wild Rift and Feeney said not to expect any further information until later in the year. It sounds like we probably won't be seeing League of Legends arrive on mobile in 2020 then. But it's good to Riot are still hard at work on it.

League of Legends: Wild Rift will eventually be available on both the App Store and Google Play. Much like it's PC counterpart it'll be a free-to-play game with in-app purchases.
