Kung Fury is a crowdfunded YouTube movie inspired by late '80s American pop culture - particularly its action movies.

It's preposterously, knowingly over-the-top, which is why it's a little surprising that this mobile game tie-in is so grounded.

Styled after the side-scrolling beat-'em-ups of the same era (thing Final Fight and Double Dragon), Kung Fury the game turns out to be a pretty sedate two-button mash-a-thon.

You have to time your left attack and right attack prompts as enemies attack from the sides. Time it right and your attack will hit home, boosting your bonus multiplier. Miss and the bonus metre drops.

It's moreish in a way that timing button presses to make kung fu Nazis crumple should be, but it's got the depth and lasting value of your average Dolph Lundgren film.
