An indie developer has just released an app that makes it possible for PC owners to play their entire games library remotely on an Android device.

You'll need to download two apps to get the service up and running: the Kainy app for your Android smartphone or tablet, and a separate app for your Windows PC.

Once they are both installed, a client / server relationship is established between your Android device and PC, meaning any game you choose to run on your desktop can be viewed - and controlled - via the Android unit.

Remote control

As anyone who has used the OnLive service on a touchscreen smartphone can attest, the default control scheme is often the major issue.

In an effort to solve that problem, Kainy features around 100 preset control and UI templates, with the option to customise your own layouts from scratch, allowing you to find the setup that suits each game best.

In its current state, the app can stream video at up to 60 frames per second, and supports both accelerometer and Bluetooth keyboard inputs.

PC power

User reviews suggest that Kainy does indeed work, although early adopters have flagged up issues with low-resolution video output.

However, the developer has pledged to update the app regularly, and to improve the service by responding to users' suggestions.

Though it sounds like there are tweaks to be made, this app could be the first step down a very exciting road for PC gamers who have a penchant for portable play.

Kainy can be downloaded from Google Play here, while the Windows companion app can be downloaded from the Kainy website here.
