October has come and is nearly over, but that didn’t stop the world of gaming from releasing tons and tons of amazing games! This spooky month has been a lot different from previous years - with a lack of trick or treating, Halloween Parties, and general spooks as everyone has stayed home. With that in mind, there are plenty of Halloween-themed games lists out there, whereas this will be a list focused on the best new games that have come out this month.

If you are looking for something new, something that you may not have seen before, something fresh to play, this is the list for you! We have lots of different games this month from narrative-based games that have strong stories to arcade games with a spooky edge, to colorful racing games. There is a lot of variety this October!

112 Operator

Publisher: Games Operators
Available on: iOS + Android
Genre: Simulation

112 Operator

I played a lot of 911 Operator when it came out on PC, so I am delighted to be able to take the experience to my phone with 112 Operator. For those not familiar with the game, you are essentially taking on the role of an operator that you call in an emergency. You have a lot of control in this game - when to send different emergency vehicles to a call, what call to take next, what to have on your team at the start of a day. It takes a lot of watching the bigger picture, but making snap decisions is needed to keep people alive!

2
HoloVista

Publisher: Aconite
Available on: iOS + Android
Genre: Adventure, Puzzle

HoloVista

At first, I didn’t really think HoloVista would be a favorite game of mine. It uses AR technology to show you a room, and you must find different objects in it to take pictures of. I often feel that AR is used as a gimmick, but HoloVista is so much more than this simple mechanic. The rooms you are exploring start to creep you out, becoming something out of your own mind. The people you are talking too, between taking photos, are a mix of real and fake. Your entire world crumbles as you discover more about who you are as a person - it’s a game I couldn’t put down.

3
Unmemory

Publisher: Plug In Digital
Available on: iOS + Android
Genre: Adventure
Find out more about Unmemory
Unmemory

I’ve said this before, and I will say it again. Unmemory is my current favorite narrative adventure game. You have woken up in a room, with no actual memory of what has led to this moment. You now need to find whoever murdered your girlfriend, through looking at notes, pictures, listening to voicemails, and solving puzzles. The game itself has 8 hours of gameplay, with a screen that you scroll down to get more information on. Watch closely, as with new information, old bits and pieces that you have seen previously might have changed…

4
Genshin Impact

Developer: Hoyoverse
Publisher: Hoyoverse
Available on: iOS + Android + Switch
Genre: 3D, Action, Adventure
Find out more about Genshin Impact
Genshin Impact

Everyone is talking about Genshin Impact - with it’s beautiful graphics, huge open world, and feeling of magic and wonder as you play. This open world RPG can allow you to team up with other people to find answers from The Seven, who are gods of each element. There are many different elemental reactions that you can use to fight off dangerous foes, as long as you can master them! One should not pass up Genshin Impact.

5
Suit-Up

Available on: iOS
Genre: Puzzle
Find out more about Suit-Up
Suit-Up

There are a lot of match-3 puzzlers on mobile, but Suit-Up captivated me with it’s simple and sleek design and ever changing gameplay. Instead of just matching up three of a kind, you will find yourself challenged with what exactly you need to match. This can be three of any kind, three of a specific kind or runs of cards. You’ll need to work smart on the screen as failing to meet one of the requests fast enough or filling up the board will end the game. There are changes to the game you can purchase with your winnings.

6
Spooky Squashers

Available on: iOS + Android
Genre: Arcade, Sports
Find out more about Spooky Squashers
Spooky Squashers

It would not be fair to make an October list of new games without including at least one Halloween-themed game. Spooky Squashers is a cute, arcade game where you are essentially playing Squash, but with a bunch of ghosts in the room that you can hit and destroy with your ball! You’ll need to try and avoid enemies as you are running around, which is where the real challenge is. Spooky Squashers have plenty of ghosts, ghouls and bosses, as well as a fun mechanic with a bit of a learning curve.

7
The Last Train - Final Ride

Available on: iOS
Genre: Adventure
Find out more about The Last Train - Final Ride
The Last Train - Final Ride

A bit of a bleak take on the end of the world, The Last Train - Final Ride tasks you with being the last train driver, of the last train in the world, after World War 3. The Earth is scorched, there are very few survivors, and you have a fully running train. It’s up to you to decide if you want to help people find their loved ones or just use whoever you find as resources to keep your train rolling on forward through the semi-empty wasteland.

8
Ministry of Broadcast

Publisher: Hitcents
Available on: iOS + Steam + Switch
Genre: Platform
Find out more about Ministry of Broadcast
Ministry of Broadcast

Ministry of Broadcast, a game that I first played what feels like years ago, is now out on mobile! This game takes the concept of a harsh world, where the people’s only entertainment seems to be watching the plights of others. You are one of the people stuck in the Ministry of Broadcast, looking to platform your way through the arena, in hopes of being entertaining but also surviving. It’s an interesting take on a dystopian world, but one worth playing through if you enjoy platformers.

9
Hot Wheels Unlimited

Publisher: Budge Studios
Available on: iOS + Android
Genre: Racing
Find out more about Hot Wheels Unlimited
Hot Wheels Unlimited

When I think racing toys, I think of Hot Wheels, so it’s fitting that Hot Wheels Unlimited is a racing game that uses many of these colorful cars from my childhood to allow me to explore a world that I can create myself. Much like the toy, you can snap together pieces, building tracks and adding new places. This track building is the real highlight of the game - there are so many colorful and fun different pieces to use - your limit is no longer the space you have to play in!

10
9th Dawn III: Shadow of Erthil

Publisher: Valorware
Available on: iOS + Android + Steam + Switch
Genre: Action, Adventure, RPG
Find out more about 9th Dawn III: Shadow of Erthil
9th Dawn III: Shadow of Erthil

A 2D, hack and slash game with a massive world, 9th Dawn III: Shadow of Erthil is a new MMORPG set within a gigantic world full of loot to find and areas to discover. You can fight back using weapons, spells, and more as you collect items and overcome the dangers you might discover in the world. The game does stand out even more with their card collecting in the game, as well as a card game tucked in between exploring.
