Plenty of developers are looking to Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play gaming phone as a solution to the issue of selling Android games.

One such is UK studio Distinctive, which has converted the not-yet released Android version of its Hockey Nations 2011 sports game for Xperia Play's analog controls and PlayStation-certified buttons.

It's a game Keith enjoyed when he reviewed the iPhone version, giving it a Pocket Gamer Silver award, saying "A marked improvement on last year's release, Hockey Nations 2011 joins the roster of sporting sensations on iPhone."

In terms of gameplay, 18 international teams and 40 city teams are available across 6 modes, as well as options such as proper offensive and defensive strategies, multiple camera angles, and a multiplayer mode that uses local wi-fi or Bluetooth.

Still, it's the ability to thrown off your helmet and gloves and have a good mini-game punch up on the ice that most amuses me. I am, however, easily pleased.

The Android version of Hockey Nations 2011 is currently exclusively available on the Xperia Play, priced $3.99 or local currency equivalent. (Android Market link)
