HeroCraft Z is an action RPG that's very light on the action and almost non-existant on the RPG.
You create an uncustomisable character from one of three main classes - warrior, mage, and archer - then set out into the many levels, bashing, setting fire to, or shooting all of the enemy cliches. Preferably in the face.
And they're good looking levels too, despite the fact there are only a handful of designs in constant rotation.
There's absolutely no incentive to explore though. There are no hidden treasures, sidequests, or damsels in distress - just a very well-beaten path.
You'll either tap to walk it or hit 'auto track' to automatically hunt and kill nearby opponents until the level is complete.
AutopilotYou attack automatically but can use skills by tapping their icons on the right. These are earned as you level up and differ depending on which class you chose at the start of the game.
You'll also earn slots to equip a team of heroes but this just makes an already easy game laughably simple. It's entirely possible to stick auto track on and just leave your heroes to their own devices - even in the more 'difficult' elite levels.
You can tap on a hero to take control of them but, bizarrely, you can't use any of their skills unless you assign them as the captain before you enter the level. This removes a potential element of strategy that could have made combat slightly less mindless.
MindlessThere is a sort-of plot going on in the background but the abundance of translation errors make the already dull and generic dialogue completely unbearable.
HeroCraft Z doesn't do anything particularly wrong, as much as it does very little right. If you're a fan of the genre you'll probably get a kick out of it until the repetition and freemium trappings puts you off.
