Half-Life 2: Episode One out now on Nvidia Shield, controller required

The first of Half-Life 2's episodic sequels, Half Life 2: Episode One, has made it onto Nvidia Shield tablets.

It costs £5.49 / $7.99 on Google Play, and requires a Shield tablet and controller to play.

Half-Life 2: Episode One was originally launched on PC in 2006, with additional desktop and console ports arriving in the years following.

The game picks up, as you'd imagine (and as you probably already know), where Half-Life 2 left off.

Its critically-acclaimed predecessor Half-Life 2 was itself ported to the Nvidia Shield earlier in the year, along with another classic Valve game, Portal.

Half-Life 2's arrival on Android was announced quite dramatically, with the developers sending a green crowbar emblazoned with the words "WHAT WOULD GORDON DO?" to Android Police.

Our review of Half-Life 2 on the Shield gave it a Bronze Award, disappointed by the diminished graphical detail required to have it run on a tablet, but still confirming its playability as both a port and a classic game.

If smacking zombie Combines (or Zombines, courtesy Ms. Vance) with a crowbar via tablet is your thing, head over to Google Play and purchase Half-Life 2: Episode One.
