HTC One X more expensive than iPhone 4S
Which One will it be?
It was often the case in the past that Android smartphones offered a higher-spec yet lower-priced alternative to the giant price tag of the iPhone. That time may be coming to an end.
HTC's new flagship quad-core phone, the One X, is now available for pre-order from Vodafone's web store, but anyone hoping it'll be a cheaper alternative to Apple's machine will be in for a shock.
You're the One that I wantThe cheapest two-year / free phone deal offered by the network starts at a whopping £41 / month, although that does include a healthy 1GB of monthly data and 900 minutes of free calls. That comes to £984 in total, if you're keeping score.
Those hoping to just get the Beats-enabled, Tegra-3 powerhouse on the cheapest contract will have to pay £299 upfront for a £26 / month, two-year deal (£923 total). You'll only get a relatively slim 250MB and 100 minutes free each month, though.
In comparison, the total outlay for the entry-level 16GB iPhone 4S is £984 and £843 on the respective contract offers.
Alternatively, HTC's slightly less-powerful Snapdragon-powered One S is available on contract for a lower total outlay - but only just. That particular handset comes free on a £36 / month, two-year contract (£864 in total).
