Bad news for original Desire owners wondering where Gingerbread had got to - it’s not going to happen.
The disappointing truth came to light on
HTC UK's Facebook page today, causing a stream of unhappy comments from its many followers.
According to the post, the company’s engineers have "been forced to accept there isn’t enough memory to allow us both to bring Gingerbread and keep the HTC Sense experience [to] the HTC Desire.
The announcement will come as a blow to owners of the popular Android handset, especially given that the company had previously said that
it would be bringing the latest version of the OS over to the phone.
Our first thought was naturally ‘why not remove Sense UI, then?’, but we guess that HTC isn’t particularly keen on removing one of the few features that differentiates its handsets from the competition.

OMG. The Galaxy S which came out same time as the Desire last summer is already now moved on from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4!!!!
This is unacceptable. That means HTC life-span of just short of 12 months only???
